At a time when many young people are still figuring out what they want to do with their lives, 22-year-old Jose Luis Lozano owns a business and is several years into a promising career at a new bank.
Lozano’s mother taught him from a young age to be motivated, hard working, and above all, honest and humble. These attributes have carried him far, from his childhood in Colombia, to immigrating to the United States, to attracting the attention of former Marquette Bank executives, who hired him as an intern, and recruited Lozano to their new venture, First Advantage Bank in Coon Rapids.
As a customer service specialist, Lozano works with individuals and commercial clients on their accounts and loans. “I believe I’m a great asset to the bank because I speak Spanish fluently and the Hispanic community has grown a lot in Minnesota,” he says. “When Hispanics come into the bank, I’m there to guide them and make them feel comfortable."
Lozano continues to strive to gain more responsibility in his banking career and hopes to finish a bachelor’s degree in finance and business management. He also hopes to grow the business he co-owns with his mother and stepfather by bringing a strategic, big picture perspective to Alfha International Services, a travel agency and money transfer business that primarily serves the Latino market.
When he’s not working or studying, Lozano serves as captain of Inter United Soccer Club, volunteers with the Association of Colombians in Minnesota, and spends time with his fiancé.
