Alfredo Rivera Gilbon lives by the notion that in order to have, you must give. Although he is a busy real estate entrepreneur, Rivera puts that philosophy in action by volunteering every day as a tutor at Centro, a social service and community center for Latinos. “I believe that energy comes back to you,” he says. “It’s happening to me and it just feels great to give to people.”

Before starting his real estate business three years ago, Rivera had successful careers in banking and finance in Mexico City. He demonstrated high aptitude for a career in the IT consulting field, and was recruiting by Accenture. Another consulting position brought him to Minnesota-based Supervalu. Eventually, Rivera realized he wanted to work for himself and started a company called MNX Dynamic Imports and Exports, which brings in goods from Mexico for sale in the United States. He also earned a real estate license.

These days, Rivera focuses on real estate, and much of his clientele comes from the Latino community. He enjoys helping others from Latin America achieve their dreams, whether it’s owning a home or starting a business.

An avid soccer player and athlete, Rivera also is an adventure seeker who enjoys scuba diving, windsurfing, and sky diving. When he’s not volunteering or running his own businesses, he draws, travels, and practices the violin. And though he works those same long hours he did as a consultant, Rivera is now his own boss. “It feels great,” he says. “To me, it translates to freedom.”
