Tuned in to The World, a global news radio program tailored to American audiences and produced by Minneapolis-based Public Radio International (PRI), listeners may hear about Asian markets or a presidential election in Africa. But what Alisa Miller, president of PRI, hopes is that beyond just finding out what happened around the globe, listeners will gain context for that information.

“Whether it’s the financial crisis or the challenges with global warming, so many issues today are actually globally interconnected,” Miller says. “For businesses to be competitive in this society, it’s really important to understand these broader trends.”

Hyon Kim, president of MN Best Enterpris es, a Minneapolis construction and engineering company, nominated the media nonprofit for the International Corporate Citizen Award. Kim, whose firm specializes in civil engineering and construction management, wishes that “I could take PRI with me when I travel overseas to get balanced information.”

PRI has a correspondent network and the exclusive rights to distribute the BBC World Service radio programming in the United States. It also produces This American Life, America Abroad, and The Takeaway, a morning news program.

“We are committed to helping people understand [that] they live in an interconnected world,” Miller says. “We do that through creating, curating, and helping bring to light programming and content across platforms—from radio to online to mobile phone.”
