The intersection of Penn and Lowry Avenues in north Minneapolis has been a redevelopment priority for the city which is striving to revitalize the struggling community. Now the corner boasts the Penn-Lowry Crossings on a formerly vacant lot. An Aldi grocery is the anchor tenant of the mixed-use office and retail center.

The developer used brick and precast stone exterior materials with anti-graffiti finishes for the project. To create a welcoming atmosphere, the storefronts were oriented to face the sidewalk and a city bus stop was integrated into the site.

A gas station had formerly occupied the site, and contaminated soil was found once excavations began. Thousands of pounds of dirt were hauled to a treatment facility, and a soil vapor extraction system was installed on the building’s roof to mitigate any additional leakage.
