An event that partnered with the national tour of the Broadway musical “Wicked” raised $30,000 for a local community theater outreach program that serves high-school students. The event was held post-performance in a tent in the parking lot next to the theater.

Planners used the “OzDust Ballroom,” a dance number from the stage show, as inspiration for the event decor. A glowing green tent, blasts of smoke, and low lying fog effects greeted guests. Linens in stripes, dots, and solids of black and white were combined with lighting effects to set the stage. The event’s ballroom marquee graphic and sponsor signage took inspiration from two key set elements in the show—gears and a clock.

The tent walls and ceiling glowed in purple and blue lighting. Handmade chandeliers were created by forming sixty martini glasses into a ball shape; inside the balls, color-changing LED lights reflected and refracted through the glasses to create glowing globes of light. Simple centerpieces consisted of wheat grass and green jelly beans. To connect the event guests with the client’s program, one wall featured photos of students in the scholarship program.

Because the event was happening at the same time as a large public parade, planners illuminated the outside of the tent in green and used banners and graphics to draw public attention for the client.
