For a two-day celebration of a new wing at a Minneapolis museum, Après in-stalled more than 35 tents, walkways, and platforms, and coordinated the installations of more than 13 auxiliary rental suppliers. The project took place over the course of 11 days and required a street to be closed, two 12-foot trees to be relocated, and parking signs and a power line moved.

Because the installation covered an area of two square blocks, Après used four golf carts to move around quickly. Cell phones and walkie-talkies maintained the flow of communication among 30 key people. Après also supplied tables, chairs, linens, and tabletop items for the gala.

The main gala tent was erected on top of a 84-by-242-foot raised platform that took 36 hours to put up. The platform covered the sidewalk in front of the museum, so the city required that a temporary, handicap-accessible sidewalk be built. Après created a 300-foot wooden walkway and painted it at the client’s request to make it attractive.

The celebration events included a gala dinner for 900 in a tent, and a family entertainment day when the park and museum were open to the public and the gala tent was used for art performances and to serve food. Crews worked all night to reset the tent for the public event after the gala, removing chairs, tables, centerpieces, and linens, and installing two additional stages.
