The ubiquitous digital signs in elevators and retail stores are now taking over India’s retail hot spots as businesses scramble to grab consumers’ attention. Broadsign International, a Minnetonka-based software company, powers the digital signage networks in restaurants, malls, and transportation hubs in India using its hosted software-as-a-service model. The firm recently launched a 300-store network in India for a major retailer.

Technologies, a St. Paul–based IT consulting company, says its computer net-work
security and automation business in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa is
growing at more than 10 percent each year. In response to this trend, and to
support Shavlik’s 2,000 customers in this region, the company opened an office
in Amsterdam, where the firm will focus on simplifying and automating security
for client IT networks.
Economic upheaval in Venezuela during the last several years has resulted in foreign companies getting the boot; in 2007, President Hugo Chavez nationalized the petroleum, communications, and energy sectors. But Duluth-based Cirrus Design Corporation, a manufacturer of personal aircraft, is betting that as Venezuelan companies move to fill the void left by foreign firms, they’ll need transportation. Cirrus established the Aero-Acciones, C.A., sales center at the Caracas Airport to serve the growing market.
