Background: Before joining MGI Pharma, Moulder worked for
many years in the pharmaceutical industry. When he started as executive vice
president at MGI Pharma in 1999, MGI had only one product. In 2002, he was
appointed president, and a year later became CEO. He then directed the
commercial rollout of MGI’s second significant product—Aloxi, a medication
developed to prevent chemotherapy-induced nausea—which reached the number-one
market share position within two years. Under Moulder’s leadership, MGI Pharma
saw a 43 percent increase in revenues from 2004 to 2005 and added nine product
candidates—with more than $1 billion in sales potential—to its portfolio.
In His Own Words: “We’ve been more effective than our competitors in licensing and
acquiring products and companies as part of our growth strategy.”
