As assistant vice president and branch manager for Bremer Bank, Enrique Vazquez seeks to be the type of boss who collaborates closely with his employees and empowers them to make decisions. His effective leadership style and talent in customer service and finance have earned him rapid promotions during 10 years in the banking industry.

Just nine months after joining Bremer as a personal banker, Vazquez was promoted to assistant branch manager, then assistant vice president and branch manager for the bank’s two downtown St. Paul locations. Vazquez earned the Best of Bremer top branch manager award for his performance during his first year as branch manager. In his job, Vazquez manages a staff of six and is responsible for the financial performance of the branches.

Though he’s already accomplished a lot, Vazquez isn’t stopping yet. Eventually he wants to work his way up to senior management at Bremer. He’s a firm believer in Bremer’s model as a foundation-owned financial institution and its mission to support nonprofit organizations. When his family immigrated to the United States from Mexico, they received a variety of assistance from nonprofits. “To support their efforts with nonprofits is a perfect fit for me,” he says.

He devotes much of his spare time to the community, serving as president of the Riverview Economic Development Agency, and as a member of St. Paul’s Workforce Investment Board. The father of four children, Vazquez is highly involved with their sports and activities, including the council for the Minnesota Youth Symphony, with which his daughter plays.

As an immigrant Vazquez thinks he has accomplished a lot in life, excelling in his career and becoming a leader in both work and the community. He adds, “I’m proud that organizations and companies have realized that I’m somebody who can be called upon to motivate people and coach individuals.”
