Pablo Borean comes from Argentina, where it’s very important to own your own house. That’s one reason he has spent the past few years helping others understand the home buying process and ultimately become homeowners.

Borean’s first job after moving to the United States more than a decade ago was bussing tables. His lack of English-speaking skills didn’t give him many options. When he left the hospitality industry 11 years later, Borean was head conference dining manager for the Northland Inn and managed a staff of 50. Two years ago, Borean turned a side job in real estate into a full-time engagement.

Borean serves clients across the Twin Cities as an Edina Realty agent and has taken the initiative to translate the company’s brochures into Spanish. He is passionate about working with first-time home buyers and often conducts seminars in Spanish and English on the real estate process.

Throughout his work and school career—which includes four years of medical school in Argentina—employers and professors have relied on Borean for his leadership and professionalism. Though he was still learning English, Borean often acted as a translator for fellow workers and his employers.

Borean is proud of his success in the United States, considering that he came to this country speaking only Spanish and French and had to start from the bottom. He credits this philosophy: “You have to be honest overall, believe in your convictions, be professional, and treat everyone with respect. Handle yourself like you would like people to treat you. It’s very basic.”

With two young daughters Borean doesn’t often visit his native country, but he enjoys sharing his culture with Minnesotans by hosting parties and Argentinean barbeques. Borean’s other hobbies include sailing, soccer, and bike riding. He makes sure to help other Latinos register to vote and encourages them to participate in the American electoral process.
