Ticket resellers Brian Obert and Michael Nowakowski closed their Hudson, Wisconsin, Ticket King shop and moved into two Twin Cities storefronts as soon as Minnesota’s ticket-scalping law changed on August 1. “For the week we’ve been here, we have had much more walk-up business than we ever had in Hudson, especially on game days,” Obert said in early August.
The influx shows that the business partners chose well when they picked store locations—one on Washington Avenue near the Metrodome and the Guthrie Theater, the other close to the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Obert says they decided against a location near the Target Center and busy Hennepin Avenue theater district because “it’s easier to park [near the Metrodome], and Washington is one of the few streets downtown that’s actually a two-way.”
They have no current plans to add more locations, but once the new Twins stadium is built, they say there’s a good chance they’ll have a presence near it. For the time being, “we are excited to be in the Twin Cities, finally meeting customers face to face,” Obert says.
