Taking over for Quam back at UnitedHealth is Stevens, a high-powered Brit who made his name as a top executive of the U.K.’s National Health Service and as a health-policy adviser to Prime Minister Tony Blair. Stevens came to Minnesota in January 2007.

Given UnitedHealth’s plans for overseas expansion of its services, Stevens is well placed. We can’t help wondering: With the departures in 2007 of heirs-sort-of-apparent Quam and Richard Anderson, will Stevens be groomed for UnitedHealth’s top spot?
