Left for dead just a few years ago, Sun Country has reversed its fortunes to become one the nation’s true airline success stories. It’s now poised to become an even bigger force in the MSP market—the only question is the manner of growth Sun Country will choose. Will it expand routes to attract more leisure travelers? Or will it increase frequency to lure more business travelers? A lawsuit by minority shareholders was preventing local investors Tom Petters and Whitebox Advisors from acquiring the airline. But with the deal closed in late October, they’ll bring additional capital to Sun Country, which will help with its expansion plans.
