You can access your home television service from far away, but most methods—including Sling Media’s popular Slingbox products—require an Internet connection. To pull satellite TV signals out of the sky while ice fishing or lying on a beach, DirecTV’s Sat-Go may be your only option.

Sat-Go is an all-in-one satellite receiver, antenna, and television set packaged in a briefcase-style carrier. The system includes a 17-inch LCD screen and a pair of speakers. The included rechargeable battery provides about an hour of power. To watch longer programs, you can plug the system into an AC power outlet or a cigarette-lighter receptacle in your vehicle. Beyond that, all you’ll need is an unobstructed view of the southern sky.

Sat-Go ($999 for the hardware, plus a $4.99 monthly service charge) is available only to people who have DirecTV service at home. More at directv.com/satgo.
