Award: 2008 MNLA
Landscape Merit Award
Category: Residential Front Yard Design
Honoree: Bachman’s,
Inc., Minneapolis
A
home in Orono had a front patio made with exposed-aggregate concrete, landscape
timbers, and raised beds that didn’t fit the style of the house. Bachman’s
removed all the old material and a turnaround driveway and installed a new
bluestone patio and asphalt driveway. A pergola is set on mortar and stone
pillars and defines a seating area with table and chairs. A low wall and
plantings are designed to screen out the driveway and traffic, though the
house’s position on a dead-end street minimizes noise and promotes privacy.
The homeowner loves to garden and maintains all the plantings herself. A trellis over the path and strategically placed low-voltage lighting accent the garden and show the way to the front entrance.
