Award: NARI 2007 Contractor of the Year
Categories: Entire House Over $500,000, Best Newcomer
Honoree: Northrup Remodeling, Inc., Minneapolis
Northrup made over a single-story 1940s ranch-style two-bedroom rambler in Minneapolis into a craftsman-inspired two-story five-bedroom five-bath home. The strikingly dark siding is cedar shingles stained in a solid color. A new 8-by-40-foot porch is supported by thick columns in the craftsman style, has a floor made of Colorado redstone, and supports a walkout balcony off the second-floor master bedroom. A stone wainscoting anchors the house, and the chimney, rebuilt with stone and brick, adds interest to both the porch and balcony.
Northrup focused on the details, such as the heavy hand-split cedar shake roof, copper gutters and downspouts, and the bead-board soffits and porch ceiling.
