A main-floor remodel in Woodbury focused on the confining kitchen. The area had distinct separations, and when the homeowners entertained, their guests broke into groups to fit the spaces, according to Jamie Anderson, production manager for Ispiri. The home’s owners wanted a more open feel, with better light and sightlines and plenty of cooking space, as they are both avid chefs.

One wall was removed to make room for a built-in serving buffet, and the stairs to the lower level were opened up and given banisters. Both changes bring lots of light from the front entrance into the kitchen, which now boasts two islands, one for food prep and one with a cooktop.

The finishes offer attractive contrasts—walnut flooring with painted white and natural cherry cabinets, lighter Cambria counters on the perimeter and black granite on the islands, and a natural stone backsplash. Two refrigerator drawers in the prep island and a down-draft ventilation unit that pops up at the back of the stovetop add cutting edge convenience.
