Rémy Cointreau SA, the French company that owns The Macallan Scotch brand, has launched a twist on that venerable distillation. Amber is for a “sophisticated woman,” the company says—a single-malt Scotch flavored with maple and pecan.

If you like your Scotch straight up, this definitely isn’t for you. Amber promises “a hint of peppery heat, mocha, and sweet, nutty fudge.” But it’s a strong, syrupy hint, and it also calls to mind French toast. On the other hand, if you like Scotch in mixed cocktails, or if you’re a fan of Drambuie (another thing Amber brings to mind), this might be your new favorite for autumn.

An interesting side note: The Twin Cities were chosen as one of 10 launch markets for Amber nationally because of high Minnesota sales of The Macallan Single Malt Highland Scotch Whisky—up 25 percent last year, compared to 10 percent nationally.
