Opulent vodka comes on with Art Deco chic and languorous charms: “Clear, with a slight platinum cast . . . . A rich entry leads to a plush, stylish, full-bodied palate,” says the Chicago-based Beverage Testing Institute. “This vodka features a generous, viscous, silky mouth feel, and lengthy, smooth, lingering finish.”

On the other hand, Opulent Brands, a new affiliate of St. Paul–based Crosby Lake Spirits Company, touts the homespun nature of its new offering—distilled in Princeton from corn grown in Minnesota and around the Upper Midwest.

That’s fitting for a stepping-stone brand. Crosby Lake is the producer and marketer of liquors including Karkov vodka, Mothers schnapps, and Ron Diaz rums. Opulent is its first entry in the premium liquor category, as a May launch party at the Chambers Hotel and limited early availability at select clubs and restaurants is meant to emphasize.
