That cell phone or MP3 player in your pocket may weigh mere ounces, but it could be key to a successful workout. PumpOne delivers personal fitness training through handheld electronic devices like iPods and Blackberries, and this winter it added mobile phone service.
New York–based PumpOne offers more than 1,500 downloadable workout programs. You can concentrate on strength, weight loss, flexibility, or preparation for an event—your wedding, for example. Some programs guide you on gym equipment; others, like Pumped2Go, require little more than the furniture in a hotel room. You can even pick a favorite trainer from a collection of experts profiled on PumpOne’s Web site (www.pumpone.com).
PumpOne workouts are sold through the Web site. Pricing varies: A typical four-week program runs $19, while combined workout bundles can top $100. You can access PumpOne Mobile service for cell phones through your phone’s Web browser (PumpOne.mobi) or by text-messaging the word PUMP to 94444. The service bills $1.99 for a single workout made available for a period of 24 hours, or $4.99 for unlimited access to more than 80 workouts for 14 days.
