Oregon Scientific’s Music Sphere system ($199 ) can send sound wirelessly from as many as three separate audio sources to a portable speaker 100 feet away. Connect, for example, your stereo receiver, TV, and MP3 player to the system’s softball-sized transmitter, and you can listen to any of those attached components in your kitchen, basement, or backyard—wherever you set the speaker.

The Music Sphere’s 8-inch-diameter speaker wraps two stereo tweeters and a subwoofer in a stylish white and translucent shell. A circular LCD screen displays a clock and changes colors—from blue to red to green—as you switch between audio sources. Surface buttons control volume, tone, and input selection. If you’d rather not get up, though, the Music Sphere also accepts and wirelessly relays commands from the remote controls that you normally use for your audio equipment.

Although you must plug the system transmitter into a wall outlet, the Music Sphere speaker runs off either AC power or six C batteries.
