Hewlett-Packard simplifies the home-entertainment hub with its SLC3760N Media-Smart TV ($2,700). Connect it to a wired or Wi-Fi home network, and this 37-inch widescreen, high-definition LCD TV will retrieve and play music or show photos and video from the Internet or your computer. (It’s not Apple friendly, though. It won’t play songs from iTunes, and is designed to work with computers running Windows XP.) Browse and select content using the TV’s remote control.

HP also offers access to a suite of online entertainment services, including the Snapfish photo-sharing site, the Live365 Internet Radio network, and CinemaNow, which sells and rents video programming.

The set boasts 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution, a 176-degree viewing angle, a 1,200:1 contrast ratio, and a 6-millisecond pixel-response rate, which should all but eliminate blur in fast-moving images. A high-definition tuner is built in, and the set automatically adjusts to ambient light.
