Tivo lets you watch television programs whenever you want to. FLO TV (flotv.com) lets you watch wherever you want to.

FLO TV began as a provider of mobile television service to AT&T and Verizon Wireless, enabling subscribers to receive programming on select mobile phones. Then late last year, the company started selling its own hardware: the FLO TV Personal Television ($250 from retailers including Best Buy and Amazon). The five-ounce device has a 3.5-inch touchscreen—about the size of an iPhone display—so it’s easy to browse a program guide and select what to watch. An integrated stand lets you prop the FLO TV up to face you on a kitchen counter, workbench, or nightstand.

Programming is delivered 24/7 via a national wireless data network and comes from sources including CBS, NBC, and cable and satellite networks. Some prime-time series air on FLO TV at the same time they’re on broadcast television, while others run at alternate times. Some late-night talk shows, for example, are on during the day on FLO TV.
