Have a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear? Kevin Quinn can help. The founder of Styledlook, a wardrobe consultancy, and Styledlife, an accessories boutique with locations at Edina’s Galleria and Gaviidae Common in Minneapolis, Quinn teaches clients how to create structure for their wardrobes. Hint: It’s not about individual pieces, but your entire lifestyle.
“I’ve been in the fashion industry for many years, and at one time was fashion director for Nordstrom.
“I started Styledlook, a wardrobe renewal service, in 2001 in New York City, which is the hub of the fashion industry and where closets are very small, so the ability to maximize one’s wardrobe is challenging. I moved back to the Twin Cities in the fall of 2004.
“People hire us because they have holes in their wardrobes. We help them decide what is worth keeping and what they should get rid of, and help them with their personal style. I have clients from all walks of life. Some clients have 25 closets [for their clothes]; others have one. They need a fresh set of eyes in determining what is worth keeping, what should be gotten rid of, and what matches their personal style. We guarantee that we will create 10 new looks from their current wardrobes.
“I think people are afraid of the fashion industry, but fashion applies to everyone, no matter your economic status. I’ve learned that looking good and feeling good go hand in hand. And I’ve learned that the biggest mistakes come from buying based on trend versus personal style. Most of us don’t have a plan for our wardrobes. But like anything in life, having a plan, a focus, brings clarity.
“Some people make purchases based on filling an emotional need; they’re having a bad day and want to feel better. Or they buy something, don’t try it on, get it home, it doesn’t fit, and they forget to return it.
Fit is a compelling aspect to fashion. I’ve learned that alterations can be your best friend.”
