Brucato returned to KSTP-TV in July 2004 after 18 years in public relations and government. She served as former Governor Arne Carlson’s director of communications and deputy chief of staff.

“In politics or in public relations, when you’re representing a client, when you are an advocate, you engage another level of your intellect. You go beyond merely observing, storytelling, and putting facts together. It takes an extra push, a leap of faith. In journalism, I don’t have to believe in the causes of the people I’m talking about.

I came back to KSTP because this is what I enjoy. I discovered I could bring business back into media—that knowing how business and politics work is useful. Most people in the news media haven’t been directly involved in that. I would argue that it’s good to get some dirt under your fingernails.”
