“Good for you” is not what this product says: Pimp Juice is neon green, a tropical berry–flavored energy drink named for the song by rapper Nelly and manufactured by his company, Fillmore Street Brewery in St. Louis, Missouri. But according to the maker of one of its ingredients, Ham Lake–based Bioenergy, Inc., the D-Ribose in Pimp Juice will improve oxygen-uptake efficiency in congestive heart failure patients and pump up endurance in athletes.
Bioenergy sells D-Ribose, a sugar compound, to food companies including New York–based Pepsico for use in Mountain Dew and SoBe products. It also sells it under the brand name Corvalen for use by people with fibromyalgia, heart disease, and chronic fatigue syndrome. But hey, don’t tell the club hoppers.
