When local med-tech industry group Medical Alley merged with biotechnology organization MNBIO last year, the united organization needed a new name. In March, it took the name LifeScience Alley, with longtime Medical Alley CEO Don Gerhardt as its head. The two groups had some overlap in company membership and purpose, and uniting them represents a concerted effort to keep the state competitive in both biotech and medical technology—which are expected to overlap more and more themselves in coming years.
