What else? The new Guthrie Theater, which opened in June, is a fresh new home that will help anchor the east end of a downtown riverfront once cluttered by abandoned train tracks.
Meanwhile, the new Minneapolis Public
Library, designed by locally beloved architect Cesar Pelli (creator of the
splendid Wells Fargo Center), opened in May, and promises to be a much more
inviting place to read and ponder than was the little-lamented structure it
replaced. Here’s hoping that these buildings stimulate infill development of the
empty spaces nearby, particularly near the library.
