Bachman’s is a great old name in local commerce, but history has shown that a great old name isn’t enough to keep a company from wilting. (Remember Bethlehem Steel?) So Bachman’s isn’t resting on its laurel leaves. Over the years, it has kept its brand flourishing by developing retail ideas that are innovative yet still rooted in its horticulture business. That includes its Floral, Home, and Garden Centers and Cedar Acres landscape-display retail center.
This year’s new Wink concept—lively new gift boutiques within Bachman’s stores—is the company’s way of hitting a younger demographic target; specifically, younger women. The slightly off-the-wall Wink gift departments, which feature stuff like handbags, pet gifts, and polka-dotted toasters, may or may not succeed, but they do reflect Bachman’s entrepreneurial nimbleness.
