ATK Techsystems announced an additional $415.6 million order of small-caliber ammunition by the United States Army. The Edina-headquartered munitions and rocket motor company will use the money to modernize its Independence, Mo., manufacturing plant.

In a press release, ATK Armament Systems President Mark DeYoung says, “We are proud of the role we play in supporting the men and women in uniform and we’re grateful to have the opportunity to continue to provide them with high quality ammunition they can count on.”

ATK is the largest ammunition supplier for the military. The corporation manufactured 1.4 billion rounds of ammunition for the Army in fiscal-year 2008 with the expectation to deliver the same amount for fiscal-year 2009.
