Golden Valley-based Animal Humane Society has announced they will open a full-service pet boarding facility adjacent to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport off Highway 62. The facility will be open 24 hours a day and will offer parking and shuttle services to the airport terminals for kennel customers.
AHS will move into the currently-unoccupied building on April 1 and will refurbish the existing 12,000 square-foot building and add an additional 10,800 square feet of new structures, parking lots, and landscaping. BWBR Architects is the project designer and Kraus-Anderson is the construction firm. The opening date is projected to be October 1, 2008.
Market research conducted by AHS indicates there is a market for their facility—there are 335,170 households in the metro area comprised of individuals who travel and have pets. Similar facilities have opened near airports in Houston, Denver, and Sydney, Australia.
