The board of directors at Minnetonka-based Carlson appointed Frenchman Hubert Joly as the new CEO and president. Joly takes over for Marilyn Carlson Nelson in March—who has led the company since 1998, and will stay on as chairperson of the board.

Hubert Joly (pronounced Hue-BARE Joe-LEE) has been at international travel-management company Carlson Wagonlit Travel since 2004, of which Carlson holds a majority ownership. During that time Joly has helped more than double the company’s sales to over $20 billion for 2007. Joly will become the company’s fourth CEO since the its founding in 1938 as the Gold Bond Stamp Company.

Carlson, which has holdings in the hotel, marketing, travel, and restaurant business, employs over 200,000 worldwide, and owns or manages roughly 1,000 restaurants and hotels worldwide.
