In 1996, St. Paul-based Gander Mountain sold its direct marketing division and a short-term trademark license to Cabela's. In the process, Gander lost the right to use its own brand or logo in direct marketing. But last July a federal judge reversed that decision, ruling that Gander could commence using its name and goose logo to market directly to customers.

Purchasing Overton’s, an established industry player in Internet and catalog marketing for recreational boaters, allows Gander to accelerate its return online and through catalogs. Overton’s is an established Internet and catalog marketer with 2006 revenues in excess of $90 million and over 15 million catalogs distributed annually. Headquartered in Greenville, N.C., Overton’s operations include a fulfillment center and call center that will support new Gander Mountain Internet and catalog marketing opportunities.
