David B. Anderson, the CEO of Rosemount-based Bay & Bay Transportation, died suddenly on December 4, his family said Tuesday. He was 62.
Anderson and his wife, Lois, purchased the national truckload carrier in 1988 for $1.1 million. Sam Anderson, their son, has been president of Bay & Bay since 2005.
Before acquiring Bay & Bay, Anderson and his wife were the owners of Anderson Diesel Truck Service, Inc., in Savage. Prior to that, Anderson worked as a diesel mechanic.
In 2004, the husband-wife business duo won an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in the master category for Minnesota, which recognized the growth of Bay & Bay into a company with $30 million in annual revenue.
Anderson was an award-winning professional fisherman and a Vietnam veteran who received two Purple Hearts.
A resident of Apple Valley, Anderson is survived by his wife, son, daughter, brother, sister, and two grandchildren.
The cause of death was not released.
