A new fundraising Web site raised more than $14 million for local nonprofits during a recent one-day campaign.
GiveMN’s “Give the Max Day” on November 17 raised money for 3,434 Minnesota nonprofits. More than 38,000 donors participated in the day of giving.
GiveMN, which launched November 2, provides donors with information about organizations that share their philanthropic goals and allows them to make online donations to any U.S. nonprofit by credit card.
“Give to the Max Day” was created to increase giving to nonprofits across the state.
“We raised more than three times as much money for Minnesota nonprofits than any other previous online community fundraising event in the United States,” Carleen Rhodes, president and CEO of The Minnesota Community Foundation and The Saint Paul Foundation, said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing to help advance charitable giving in the Internet age through GiveMN.”
The Bush Foundation, The Minneapolis Foundation, and The Saint Paul Foundation sponsored “Give to the Max Day” and offered multiple incentives for donors to participate. They included a $500,000 match, of which every donation received a portion, and grants for the three nonprofits to which the largest number of individuals made contributions. Second Harvest Heartland had the most donors, while the College of Saint Benedict came in second, and Twin Cities Public Television and the Animal Humane Society tied for third.
GiveMN said it will sponsor promotions throughout the year that are designed to appeal to different types of givers, create new incentives for giving, and engage a broader audience.
