The trendy localvore Red Stag Supperclub in Northeast Minneapolis has received silver certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System for commercial interiors, the restaurant announced Monday.
The Red Stag is the first restaurant in Minnesota and the ninth in the nation to be certified by LEED, the industry standard for sustainable building and design.
Some of the sustainable efforts by the Red Stag include subscribing to 50 percent wind energy, composting organic waste, using LED lights, and using recycled and salvaged materials.
The Red Stag was first opened in November 2007 by local restaurateur Kim Bartmann, who also owns Bryant-Lake Bowl and Barbette, all in Minneapolis.
