The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry has named oral health care researcher and epidemiologist Sheila M. Riggs to chair its Department of Primary Dental Care. Riggs was most recently CEO, president, and director of Delta Dental of Minnesota, and she has held executive leadership positions within Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa and the Wellmark Foundation. She received her doctor of dental surgery degree at the University of Iowa and has both a master’s degree and a doctorate of medical sciences in epidemiology from Harvard.

James I. Lammers has joined the Minneapolis office of Perkins+Will, an integrated design firm focused on architecture, planning and interior design services.

Mark Sims, principal and senior vice president at Colliers Turley Martin Tucker, has been elected to a three-year term on the company’s board. He joins Dean Freeman, principal and senior vice president, as representatives for Minneapolis/St. Paul.

The Minneapolis marketing and advertising agency Gabriel deGrood Bendt has hired Jan Pettit, an advertising writer who worked for 15 years at Martin Williams.

Lori Leibig has joined Hanley Wood Marketing, Minneapolis, as creative staff design director. Leibig has been working at HWM as a contract designer for the past year.

Amy Phenix has been named director of communications at Macalester College, St. Paul, from which she was graduated in 1988. She had been vice president for marketing and communications at Allina Hospitals & Clinics in Minneapolis.

Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Minneapolis, has announced the retirement of executive vice presidents Rob Deliberto and Scott Guerrero. The company said that both will continue to assist the company with specific initiatives during 2009.

Sajan, an on-demand language translation technology and services located in River Falls, Wisconsin, has added Peter Shutte as vice president of business development.
