New York City may just be losing its appeal to the high-powered MBAs of the Twin Cities. A survey done by Universum, an employer branding company, showed that MBA students from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management choose the Minneapolis-St. Paul area over New York City as their destination of choice after graduation.
According to the survey, 60 percent of the MBAs surveyed plan to stay in the area after their studies are complete, looking to prominent local companies for employment. Among the top 10 most-desired companies for Carlson MBAs, six are based here in Minnesota. 3M came in at the top of the Minnesota companies, second nationwide only to McKinsey. Cargill, Medtronic, Target, Best Buy, and Mayo Clinic rounded out the list.
The survey was given to more than 5,700 students from the nation’s top 52 MBA programs and included 70 students from Carlson. In keeping with their high standards for prospective employers, the group also cited a “competitively and intellectually challenging” career to be a top requirement for them, in addition to working for a company with a good reputation and inspiring management.
